pretty mad your poll made me choose between the cure and slowdive. I am also very excited about new Pulp and Stereolab (seeing the latter in Oct.)

yeah I'm stoked about the new stereolab too... one of my favorites (and Laetitia Sadier has has SO many cool side projects recently). and sorry about the poll 😅

oo! And new Viagra Boys - who I'm also seeing later this year. Also, I would not be surprised if we saw new Brainiac soon, maybe this year. I just saw them open for Mogwai and they still seem to have a lot of gas in the tank.

I really hope I can see Viagra Boys too... that's my plan anyway

Viagra Boys are so good live! A real party! I didn't know they were coming out with a new album so I'm hoping they will come through town again.

I should have mentioned that paid subs still have access to the full album stream in the discord if you want to listen to it early!

I saw Pulp debut 'Common People' at the Reading Festival in 94 (the song wasn't released until 9 month later, in May 95). They played 'Underwear' too. The band had experienced some belated success. They were at a point where they were either going to cement their position or fade into the background. On the basis of the new songs it was clear that their next album was going to be massive. The thing that I remember most is Jarvis talking to the audience in between songs. He had a very relatable charisma. A few years ago I revisited 'A Different Class' during one of Tim's Twitter Listening Parties. Received wisdom dictates that 'This Is Hardcore' is Pulp's dark album, but its predecessor is filled with moments where misfits and social outcasts behave like creepy, vengeful arseholes. It's a fantastic record but really quite unpleasant in places.

I am not overly impressed by the new song. It doesn't carry the same weight as Blur's recent strong return. I'm just glad they're back. Given that the final track on More is titled 'A Sunset' I assume the album is intended as a swansong. If that is the case, then it is well deserved. It's a shame not everyone is around to take a bow.

that's interesting. i was hugely disappointed in blur's newest album. i thought there was very little to redeem it. i was completely ready to dislike the new pulp song but i wasn't exaggerating by how much it just knocked me off my feet. i honestly can't imagine what it would have been like to see the debut of common people... what a legendary thing to have witnessed. but now that i've seen them perform it live twice to decades-long fans, it's just ecstatic. of course the new record won't compare to anything they've done in the past. but yes, jarvis is a brilliant showman, and i think this will be a retrospective of all that in one way or another.

Listening party was an absolute treat and I’m very excited for the album to be out in the world. Also, my two favourite bands of ever - Black Honey and We Are Scientists - have both announced new albums for the summer. I’m insanely hyped for both. Elsewhere, I’m looking forward to the new Sports Team and Midnight Rodeo’s debut.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Julian Baker / Torres release, based on the wondeful single, "Sugar In The Tank". Julian Baker is a surprisingly good solo performer, she can really make an electric guitar scream. Interested to hear what a more Americana take will produce.

Also, I'll just be happy to hear that Wet Leg managed to release another album and hit the road as a headliner in medium sized venues. They could play two songs from the new album and every cut from the first one, plus a cover or two, and I would be all gaga over them all over again.

totally agree about wet leg - they are still riding that high from the debut and I don't need too too much from this one, but I'm still so excited to see what else they've got.

I do really like sugar in the tank and I think it's already on my best of 25 playlist... I used to love Torres in her very early days but she's really nosedived in my estimation in recent years. and I have to admit I'm all boygeniused out (re Baker and that whole gang). but this might be just the twist that I need to get energized again

Came here to say Stereolab. I recently paid a fair amount of money for ‘Chemical Chords’ having dismissed it at the time, and having spent the last 12 months catching up on the last few Sonic Youth albums . . I’m realising that maybe I’ve just caught up in age too.

Hell, I’m still younger than Lee Renaldo was on those records, but only just.

My vote went to Slowdive. The Cure might have produced their best album since ‘Disintegration’ but Slowdive are producing the best work of their career - maybe because they were never entirely musically inactive, but spent a long time on the song-focused Mojave Three and then worked out how to integrate the electronic stuff that kind of tore Neil and the band apart the first time round.

Looking forward to Lael Neale

Even though I haven't loved the singles so far, I anxiously await my Mclusky pre-order.

Other anticipations:

Tunde Adebimpe (tommorow!)

Laura Jane Grace

Little Simz (haven't paid her much mind before, but Flood is one of my favorite songs of the year so far)

I’ve been loving the Lifeguard single too - and hammering the Sharp Pins album obviously. Kai Slater is some talent! Love how the fluffy dog in the video is not remotely threatening - it really made me chuckle.

I’m not actually that sold on the new Pulp song and I have This Is Hardcore ranked as the Best Album Ever. The new Wet Leg song is good, but it’s pretty much a Dream Wife song and I can hear Dream Wife songs from Dream Wife.

I do love dream wife a LOT, but I think this is far more similar to older wet leg tracks than to dream wife. try to keep an open mind!

Like you, very excited about Wet Leg and Lifeguard. Also hyped for the latest from Pachyman (who I just saw on the same bill as Lifeguard), The Thing (I’ve heard it and it rules), Frankie and the Witch Fingers (ditto), Hotline TNT, and ex-Siouxsie axe-man John McKay. I can probably think of more, but time’s a-wasting!

maybe my comment didn't that but I was saying how much I'm into both the Thing and Hotline TNT. I like Frankie too but man what a crappy band name 😆 Lots of great stuff on the horizon!
