ok ok ok so... had to get to this before the taylor swift album dropped today (lol)

love the playlist! there's a few choices on there which i recognise, thanks for reminding me about that Hatchie song and about Jockstrap! ALSO i literally discovered yeule and that Victor guy last week so... coincidence????? and the new stuff -- i really like the Empress Of song, and the Hayley Williams.

gonna enjoy coming back to this and digging into everything deeper. thank you for taking the time to make such a delightful playlist!

whew! now I'll really be curious if any of the hip hop managed to break through to you. Victor Jones is because our mutual friend and I both discovered him simultaneously and have been obsessing, btw!

1. This is very good list

2. I love a good guilty pleasure. The term doesn't mean I feel guilty that I like it, it's a shorthand for something that I wouldn't normally be into, or maybe I like it even if I don't think it's particularly "great" songwriting, but I enjoy it anyway. I guess as a Gen X music nerd, the term has a history and meaning to me that is different to how it is usually interpreted. I've been hammered for expressing thishi viewpoint before, I get the connotation is very negative for most folks these days. I promise, I'm not trying to be a hater!

3. Metal tends to be my least favorite genre. I'm happy it's there for people who are into it. It's very cathartic and enjoyable for lots of people. Mostly, just not my bag. I don't love Hardcore either. But I like a lot of adjacent punk, alt rock, indie rock, post-punk, etc. I guess we all have our areas that connect and others that don't as much. Just the nature of the beast.

i don't like metal either. but I admit I also don't really give it enough of a chance, and I certainly don't know if well enough. i chose the kind of metal that didn't rub me the wrong way. "gateway" metal. genre bending metal. diluted metal? either way, something that might let somebody dip a toe in.

Yes to including Weyes Blood! I'm super passionate about her and wrote two posts about her last month. Also yeah, Olivia's list of influences for her upcoming work is wild. Great read! -max

it's weird, I think because she released her album so late last year I was very firmly in my cranky end of year "how dare anyone release albums this late" mode and didn't give her record a proper chance. I'm glad to have a chance now, given Olivia's incredible list of inspirations
