The New Bands for Old Heads Directory & Discord
A directory of every single band and every single playlist I have ever mentioned in this newsletter. Plus the link to the Discord server.
What is the directory?
Last year I started keeping a spreadsheet of every new band I’ve ever recommended in the newsletter.
It’s an extremely unaesthetic Google Sheet that acts as an index, an archive, and a reference. It includes
the name of the new band
the old band (or general vibe) that they sound like, and
a link to the post where I talked about them.
Did you ever miss a few weeks of my posts and felt too lazy to read through them? Or you’re just having a tip of the tongue moment? This is an easy way to catch up.1
It also has a tab for every single playlist I’ve ever shared both in this newsletter and elsewhere in the New Bands for Old Heads ecosystem (Tik Tok; I’m talking about Tik Tok).
Obviously, this directory is ugly as hell. But that doesn’t stop it from being — in my humble opinion — extremely useful.
What is the Discord?
The Discord Server is an online community for all of us supernerds to hang out and talk about music! If you aren’t getting enough recommendations in the newsletter and you want a steady stream, it’s an obvious next step to your new music discovery journey.
We also have a monthly book club and radio hours to entertain us. And even a few IRL meetups at festivals and concerts! It’s genuinely very cute.
So far it’s been an incredibly chill place with zero bad vibes whatsoever. That’s all thanks to you guys and I’m super grateful to have this space. It’s a testament to how amazing this community is ❤️.
Because these are both paid subscriber benefits, I need to regenerate the links regularly. I don’t know why I didn’t think to park them in an easily referenced Substack post instead of constantly updating all of my emails, but some of us are a bit slow. I got there eventually.
